Google Pay is a digital wallet platform and online payment system developed by Google to support in-app and touch-to-touch purchases on mobile devices, allowing users to pay with Android phones, tablets or watches. The service also supports passes such as coupons, boarding passes, student ID cards, event tickets, movie tickets, public transport tickets, store cards and loyalty cards.

It has also inherited the branding of Google Chrome’s autofill feature. Google Pay adopts the features of both Android Pay and Google Wallet through in-store, peer-to-peer and online payment services.

It replaces the credit or debit card chip and PIN or magnetic stripe transaction in point-of-sale terminals by allowing the user to upload them to the Google Pay wallet. Google Pay takes advantage of physical authentications such as fingerprint ID, where applicable. On devices without a fingerprint ID, Google Pay is activated with a passcode. When the user makes a payment to a merchant, Google Pay does not send the credit or debit card number with the payment.

Google Pay requires that a screen lock be set on the phone. Spring CEO Alan Tisch said Google Pay improves mobile shopping activity by supporting a Google Pay powered “buy button” built into the provider’s creative design.

Service Technology keeps customers’ payment information confidential from retailers by replacing the Customer’s Primary Account Number or debit card with the Key Account Number of the encrypted device and generating a «code Dynamic security is created for every transaction ». To make payments at the point of sale, users hold their authenticated Android device to the NFC reader of the point-of-sale system.

Consumer device cardholder verification method

In EMV mode transactions, Google Pay supports the use of Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method using biometrics, phone model or passcode lake. Using CDCVM allows the device to provide self-verification of the transaction and may not require the cardholder to sign a receipt or enter their PIN.
